Miriam P. Rogers, EdD, RN, AOCN, CNS, an advanced oncology certified nurse and certified nurse specialist, is Director/Advanced Practice Nurse of Oncology Services, President of the Nursing Executive Council, and Administrative Director of Adult Acute Care Services for WakeMed in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her responsibilities include case management, pain consultation, and oncology clinic coordination, as well as continuing education and the development of a flexible care management model across the WakeMed system; interaction with all operating units where cancer patients are admitted in a three-hospital system; and serving as chief nursing executive in a shared governance model, enhancing collaborative practice between nursing and medical services. She is also a consultant and sole proprietor for CANursing Enrichment in Raleigh, North Carolina. In this capacity, she offers chemotherapy administration/oncology nursing preparation, pain management development, and evaluation and redesign of cancer programs for congruence with national standards.

Dr. Rogers received her nursing education from the Kingsport School of Practical Nursing in Kingsport, Tennessee; East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee; and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her doctorate in education (Adult Education/Professional Education Specialty) from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Early professional and personal experience in the care of cancer patients influenced Dr. Rogers' decision to specialize in oncology nursing, which has broadened to include continuing and professional adult education. Concurrent to clinical and administrative experience, Dr. Rogers has taught extensively at the post-RN level, with a specific focus on cancer care, and presented nationally to public and professional audiences on a broad range of cancer-related subjects. Her work has been published in a variety of publications and media. She is active in several professional organizations, including the American Cancer Society and the Oncology Nursing Society, and in collaborative research.
