Matthew R. Smith, MD, PhD
Matthew R. Smith, MD, PhD, a board certified specialist in internal medicine and medical oncology, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, and an Assistant Physician at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Smith received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina, and his doctorate in molecular biology from Duke University Graduate School. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, a clinical fellowship in medical oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, and a fellowship in molecular biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
A three-time recipient of the CaP Cure Prostate Cancer Research Award and a past recipient of the Clinical Associate Physician Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Clinical Scientist Award, Dr. Smith's work focuses on understanding and preventing the side effects of hormonal therapy in men with prostate cancer, and the treatment of bone metastasis. His research has been published in such medical journals as the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer, Urology, Hematology/Oncology Clinics of North America, and the Journal of Urology. He has also contributed to a number of medical textbooks.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and the American Urologic Association.
