Claude C. Schulman, MD, PhD, is Professor of Urology at the Free University of Brussels in Belgium and Chief of the Urology Service at Erasme Hospital, University Clinics of Brussels. Dr. Schulman earned his medical degree at the Free University of Brussels, where he also completed training in Urology and received a PhD. With clinical interests in new technologies in urology, prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction, and hormone replacement in men, Dr. Schulman has participated in more than 500 international congresses and been invited to be a visiting professor at various universities across Europe and North and South America.

Dr. Schulman is editor-in-chief for the journal European Urology, the official journal of the European Association of Urology (EAU), and a member of the editorial committee for Current Opinion in Urology, Urology, Journal of Endourology, International Journal of Urology, Progress in Urology, Urologia (Italy), Archives in Urology (Spain), Turkish Urology Journal, and the African Journal of Urology.

He is the author or coauthor of many publications, including book chapters in the Textbook on Prostate Cancer (Academic Press), Operative Surgery/Urologic Surgery (Lippincott), Genitourinary Surgery (Butterworths), Textbook on Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (Isis Medical), Pediatric Surgery (Chapman & Hall), Pediatric Urology (Butterworths), and Surgical Pediatric Urology (Thieme). He is also the editor of several books, including Advances in Diagnostic Urology (Springer, 1981), Pediatric Urology (Flammarion, 1985), Ectopic Ureters and Ureteroceles (Acta Medica, 1972), and Urology for the Practitioner (3 volumes, Brussels).

A member of twenty international scientific societies, Dr. Schulman was president of Congress 2003 of the Association of Academic European Urologists and president of Congress 2000 of the European Association of Urology. He is a board member of the European Association of Urology.
